Funky Phil
Club Infinity / The Club Show

Funk Phil hosts Club Infinity, Thursdays 9am to 12pm, and The Club Show, Fridays 8am to 11am
Music has always been my passion, and when I was 17 I used to carry my mobile DJ gear every Saturday night to a football club. When I 18 my dream was to become a nightclub DJ, and that dream came true when I landed a gig securing a residency at a top nightclub in town.
Soon after I approached a community station during its test broadcast transmissions in Melbourne. I never thought of becoming a radio presenter, and I still remember the first day I was live on radio, my face was as red as a tomato and my heart nearly come out of my chest – I was soaked in sweat.
Now on Sunbury Radio, the music I play on Thursday mornings during Club Infinity is mostly Eurodance from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. This music has been totally snubbed in Australia by commercial radio stations so it is great to get it to air here.
During The Club Show on Fridays I play mostly happy tunes, party music, and forgotten floor fillers from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s – plus the good remakes and remixes. You will hear tracks such as Born to be Alive, Funky town, Knock on Wood and Ring my Bell just to name a few. Who can forget these classics tunes?
The Club Show is my favourite as my friend use to host a show with the same name some 35 to 40 years ago on CityFM. He was my co-host, but unfortunately he passed away and I took over the show in his loving memory. RIP Jason Shaw.
Favourite album: Modern Talking – Back for Good from Germany 1998
Do you play an instrument? I don’t play musical instruments but would like to learn to play keyboards and the drums.
Favourite movies: Mad Max films, Titanic, Flashdance.
Advice to new volunteers: My advice to volunteers is that being involved in a community station is fun.
